Obit from NS Obits posted by Rosemary Rafuse Mrs. Ephraim Crouse 1943 Bridgewater Bulletin On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 10, at about 1:30 o'clock, the community of Upper Branch was saddened by the passing of Mrs. Olivia Crouse, widow of Ephraim Crouse, at the age of 76 years. A daughter of the late Solomon and Eliza Meldrum of Upper Branch, she was a faithful member of the Baptist Church and a devoted wife and mother. Although she had been in failing health for the past two years, she carried on all her household duties until two months prior to her death. During this time, while indifferent health caused her to remain very much at home, she was cheered by the visits of her many friends, who were always sure of a warm welcome at her home. When the time came that she required the ministrations of a nurse, she was lovingly and tenderly cared for by a close friend, Mrs. Angus Ritcey of Baker's Settlement and during her closing hours, Mrs. Ritcey was assisted by Mrs. Ernest Ritcey of Nineveh. Her husband predeceased her by six years. She is survived by two sons, Alvin,of Upper Branch, and Maynard, at home; also a grandson, Alvin, of Upper Branch, whom she cared for as a son from infancy. Her youngest son, Freddie, passed away 26 years ago and an only daughter, Minnie (Mrs. Dennis Beck), passed away ten years ago. There also survives two brothers, Silas and Joshua Meldrum, of Upper Branch, and a sister, Mrs. James Hirtle, Kempt. Two brothers and one sister predeceased her. There are seven grandchildren. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, November 12, at 2 o'clock, from the home and church and was conducted by Rev. D.L. Kennedy of Bridgewater, who took as his text, Luke 23:45,"Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit." The following hymns were sung: "Asleep in Jesus," "Peace, Perfect Peace," "It is not Death to Die," and "Abide With Me." Pall-bearers were Clarence Wentzell, Jabez Mader, Clarence Conrad, and Sylvanus Hirtle. The body was laid to rest beside her husband in the family lot at Upper Branch.
