There are some discrepencies in accounts as to the middle name for Simpson Howard: Asbery, Asbury, etc. For this entry the name Asbury will be used, as it is what appears in his death notice published in the Fairfield Daily Ledger on June 18, 1932 and in other family data sheet records. The use of Asbery in the Evergreen Cemetery listing compiled by Verda Baird is likely a typographical error and should likely be discounted. Married Sarah Penorah Bradshaw on October 24, 1877. See her entry for additional family information. According to the death notice referred to above, Mr. Howard was born on a farm near Fairfield. He at one time lived on what is known as the old Howard farm, 6 1/2 miles east of Fairfield. He passed away at his home on East Burlington street at 2:30 p.m. Dr. U.S. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church was in charge of the funeral service. Survived by the following children: Mrs. Anna Haney, at home; J.R.Howard of Fairfield, Mrs. Zerual Lynch of Milton; and Virgil A Howard of Oak Park, Ill. He also left one sister, Mary Polston of Lenox, Ia. Paul Haney of this city is a grandson. ----------- Daughter Ruby May Howard is buried in this same plot, between her parents (in unmarked graves) and her maternal grandparents John and Anna Bradshaw.
