Robert Douglas Bird, son of John Robert and Lena (Scott) Bird was born January 23, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and received his education at Washington High School. Read More	Sioux Falls, SD – Robert Douglas Bird, 80, 1508 E. 6th Street, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at his residence. Robert Douglas Bird, son of John Robert and Lena (Scott) Bird was born January 23, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and received his education at Washington High School. Robert entered the United States Navy on December 17, 1943. He held the rank of Seaman First Class. He was honorably discharged on May 6, 1946. He moved back to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a Carman. Robert was united in marriage with Delores M. Dirkson on August 28, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union four children were born. Robert went to work for John Morrell & Co. as a Tank House Operator for 28 years retiring in 1987. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Delores Bird, Sioux Falls, SD; children, Douglas Bird and his wife, Marcy, Sioux Falls, SD, Pam Hebert and her husband, Donald, Houma, LA, Sheila O'Dea and her husband, Tom, Sioux Falls, SD, Shelly Martin and her husband, Dan, Houma, LA; sister, Aloma Deeds and her husband, Charles, Blanchard, OK; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.
