JOHN DITTMER Mrs. John Dittmer passed away suddenly of cerebral apoplexy, on Monday afternoon, Sept. 1st, at 3 o'clock, attaining the age of 69 years, 1 month and 6 days. In 1940 Mrs. Dittmer wrote the story of her own life as follows: Sophia, Anna, Marie Dittmer was born the 26th of July, 1876 in Nemeha (sic) County, Nebraska. She was baptized in the name of the triune God by Pastor H. Rehwelt on August 4, 1878. Her parents were Frederick Kniep and Anna Meyer, who had both come to America from the province of Hannover, Germany. When I was three years old my parents moved to Nuckles (sic) Co., Nebraska and later to Thayer Co., near St. Peters Church that I was confirmed on the 26th of March, 1893 by Pastor W. Hertel. My meory (sic) verse was Rev. 3,20: "Behold I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with me." Following my confirmation I remained mostly at home and would help the neighbors whenever necessary. On Oct. 22 (sic), 1903, I was united in marriage with John Dittmer in St. Peters Church by Pastor O. Lempe. We had our first abode in Nuckles (sic) Co. From 1907-1928 we lived in Republic Co., Kans. On February 20, 1928 we moved to Thayer Co. 3 miles east of Bryon. Since then we have been members of St. Paul's Church in Byron. From 1909 to 1910 I noticed that my hearing was leaving me, until gradually it became so impaired that I hear very little. I feel like a deaf-mute, but I am glad that I can see. "Truly my soul waiteth upon God from him cometh my salvation." Ps. 62.1. Thus I commit everything into the hands of God. Mrs. Dittmer is survived by her husband, John Dittmer, 3 daughters, Emma and Frieda Dittmer and Johanna Schmidt; 2 sons, Edwin and Otto; 1 daughter in law, Mrs. Edwin Dittmer; 1 son in law, Henry Schmidt; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. August Gebers; 3 brother (sic), William, Henry and Christopher Kniep. Funeral services were held St. Paul's Church, Byron on Thursday morning, Sept. 4. Pastor P.J. Weltner spoke in German on Ps. 62.1 and in English on Phil. 3, 20 21. Her body was laid to rest in the parish cemetery.
