Feb. 12.—One of the saddest circumstances that has occurred In this vicinity for a long time, was the death of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Broad within 20 hours of each other. They were both stricken by "flu" about a week ago. Pneumonia developed in both cases, and In spite of medical skill and trained attendants death claimed them as its reward. Mrs. Broad died Tuesday [Feb 10th] at 5:20 a. m. and Mr. Broad died Wednesday [Feb 11th] at 12:35 a. m., and their once happy home was quickly turned to a house of mourning. Their little son, three years of age, is lying critically ill, and Mr. Broad's mother, Mrs. Charles Broad, is also there very sick, both suffering from the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Broad resided on a farm one mile northeast of this city and were among Spring Creek township's most substantial citizens. They were worthy the high esteem in which they were held as they were good farmers kind neighbors and generous to a fault. He took an active part in all civic improvements of his vicinity and anything that was for the betterment of the community had his earnest endorsement and assistance. Mr. and Mrs. Broad were both active workers in the Wesleyan Methodist church of their neighborhood, altho Mrs. Broad was formerly a member of the Presbyterian church of Vinton. Mrs. Broad, who was Miss Sophia Sisson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Sisson, Seneca, la., was born in La Porte, City, Nov. 8, 1894, and was married to Harry Broad at Brandon, Dec. 1, 1914, and they established their home on the farm in Spring Creek township, where they have since resided. Mrs. Broad was possessed of a sweet personality that endeared her to all of her acquaintances and she will be greatly missed in the social circle in which she was a favorite. She leaves beside the three-year-old son. her parents, three sisters and legions of friends to mourn her early demise. Mr. Broad, who was about 28 years of age, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Broad, born and reared; in Spring Creek township. He is survived, besides the son, by his mother Mrs. Charles Broad, one brother, Fred Broad, Spring Creek; one sister, Mrs. Earl Schutte, near Jesup. Funeral services were private and burial was Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Spring Creek cemetery, with a short prayer service at the grave.
