SOPHIA EBELING Mrs. Sophia Ebeling , nee Kroemer, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Bredemeier, DuBois, at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, following a lingering illness. She reached the age of 89 years, four months and 20 days. Mrs. Ebeling was born September 22, 1858, in Borstell, Obernkirchen, Germany. She was baptized Sopie Wilhelmine Charlotte Kroemer, and later confirmed in the Evangelical church at Deckbergen, Germany. There she was united in marriage to Wilhelm Ebeling, February 9, 1879. To this union three sons and three daughters were born, two of whom preceded her in death. The Ebelings came to America in 1892, arriving in DuBois in June of that year. Here they were met by Mrs. Ebeling's cousin, C. William Meier of DuBois. The Ebelings made their home near DuBois, and at the site which was formerly known as Cincinnati. Mrs. Ebeling was a loving mother and grandmother, truly devoted to her family and her many friends, and a faithful member of her church. Throughout her life she found great joy and comfort in singing her favorite hymns. Among the survivors are four children, Mrs. Louise Bredemeier, Wilhelm Ebeling, DuBois; Mrs. Anna Conrad, Salem, Oregon; and Mrs. Minnie Haffner, Bern. Also twelve grandchildren, one having preceded her in death; thirty-three great-grandchildren,; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Kroemer of Bern, and one brother living in Germany, William Lohmann.
