He went to Humphrey on Tuesday of last week and took sick there in the evening, while walking on the street being carried to a hotel where he grew worse gradually until death relieved him of his suffering. He had kidney trouble, having several severe spells similar to this before but it is said a blood vessel broke in one of his kidneys this time. His wife went to Humphrey after he took sick and she became sick also. The remains were brought to Tarnov and the funeral conducted by Father Czech Monday morning, interment in the cemetery nearby. Mr. Savidge was elected school treasurer last July for this district; he was honest in all his dealings and bore the respect of all his acquaintances. He leaves a wife and eight children, the oldest about 16 years. ======================== Columbus Journal, Page 1 Wednesday, January 24, 1906 HUMPHREY (from the Leader) Charles Savidge, who was taken suddenly ill on our streets last Tuesday evening, died of hemorrhages Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the rear of the Peterson restaurant. Dr. Evans of Columbus was called in consultation with the home physicians, and everything done to save his life but without avail. The deceased is of Polish descent and was a resident of Tarnov. He was 42 years of age at the time of his death and leaves a wife and six children to mourn his demise. The remains were taken to Tarnov Friday evening, and funeral services were held from the Tarnov Catholic church and interment made in the Catholic cemetery. [Note: There is some question according to family members about the account of the injuries received prior to the death of Charles Savidge. He may have received injuries having been in some way involved in a bar fight - possibly trying to break it up. More research needed. See Jan. 19th, 1906, issue of the Humphrey Democrat.]
