Description	:	Stella Louise Markwed was born at Calendonin, MN Feb 17, 1906 and died Sept. 12, 1935 at the age of 29 years, 6 months and 26 days At the age of one year she came to SD with her parents to live on the homestead. She completed common school in the Moenville community and high school at Pierre. She served as teacher in the county two years. She completed common school in the Moenville community and high school at Pierre. She served as teacher in the county two years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has always been an active member in the church and aid work. Stella was united in marriage to John G. Gates June 14, 1927. to this union two children were born, John Granville, Jr. and Frances Olive. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, ever watchful for the comfort of her family. Her pleasing personality was in inspiration to the family and all her friends. Her father, A. O. Markwed, three brothers, Albert, Wilbert and Walter preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss, a true and loving husband, John G. Gates; two small children, John Jr. and Frances Olive; her mother Mrs. Mary Markwed, three sisters and three brothers, Live, Anna, Agnes, Oscar, William and Emery and their families. Also a host of their relatives and a large number of friends. Funeral services were held at the home and in Deep Creek Church Sunday, Sept. 15th, the sad rites being conducted by her pastor Rev. O.H. Olson. A choir consisting of members from Midland and Nowlin contributed greatly to the services with the beautiful songs. The entire community turned out in body to pay final respects to the departed and extend sympathy to the sorrowing.
