Cady died at the home of his son, Warner, five miles southeast of Nodaway, Monday afternoon at one o’clock. The direct cause of his death was cancer of the stomach, from which he had been suffering for some time. For the past year Mrs. Cady had made his home at Carbon and on September 11 he was taken to Creston for an operation. However there it was learned that an operation could not save his life, so he was brought to the home of his son where he died. Mr. Cady had suffered from eye trouble since 1865, and in later years at time he was totally blind. Steven Howell Cady was born in Ohio, May 14, 1837. He was seventy seven years, four months, and seven days old at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Mary Anderson at Cambridge, Illinois, June 14, 1865, who survives him. To this union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters, six of whom also survive. The son, William Howell died in 1868 in Illinois, where he is buried. Those living are Frank Edward at Galva, Illinois, Warner, five miles southeast of Nodaway; Mrs. Mary Else of Guss; Mrs. Christian Wells of Spence, Colorado; Mrs. Nora Tyler of Franzeex, Minnesota, and Mrs. Emma Mulligan of Seattle, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Cady moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1879, settling near Guss on the Else Farm. They moved from this farm to Carbon over a year ago and had lived there since. Mr. Cady joined the Methodist Church in Illinois a number of years ago and had remained true to the faith since. Although handicapped through life, he maintained a cheerfulness that was remarkable and endeared him to his friends and relatives. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock from the residence of his son, Warner, near Nodaway, conducted by Rev. E. S. Menoher, pastor of the Villisca M. E. Church. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery, where the deceased has a number of relatives buried. His sons and daughters from a distance were unable to arrive in time for the services. Beside Mrs. Cady, Mrs. Else, of near Guss, Christina Well, Spencer, California, Laura Tyler, Frazee, Minnesota, Emma Mulligan, of Seattle, Washington, survive. Mr. Cady, Warner Cady, and Mary Else attended the funeral.Mr. Cady made his home a number of years in Hawleyville, near the coal mines of that vicinity. Some twenty years ago he lived in Villisca and for a time his home was near Carbon. He was totally blind for many years.
