Stephen Warner Cady was born April 24, 1866 at Bishop Hall, Illinois and died March 6, 1937, aged 70 years, 10 months, and 12 days. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1879 settling in Page County. At the age of 24 he was united in marriage to Mary Abigail Else and to this union four children were born, June, Harry, Herbert, and Delmar. Of these children only two survive, Herbert of Creston, and Delmar of Nodaway. June died in infancy and Harry at the age of three. His wife Mary Abigail died eight years after marriage. Mr. Cady was married November 29, 1898 to Bertha May Cady. To this union seven children were born, Rosa Magnuson of Corning, Beulah Hatfield of St. Louis, Sadie Elvina of Cumberland, Glenn of Chicago, and Walter, Virginia, and Ethel Cady of the home, all of whom with the widow survive. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Christina Well of Fort Morgan and Mrs. Emma Kelley of Seattle, Washington, and ten grandchildren. Mr. Cady was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was known as a loving father and helpful neighbor, living a life dedicated to his family even forgetful of self, where another's needs were concerned. His death brings a close to a long useful life and he will be greatly missed by the sorrowing family and his many friends. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Nodaway on Monday, March 8, 1937 at 1:30, Rev. Harold Jackson of Osage conducting the services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Albert Lund and Harl Jackson of Iveyville with Mrs. Vida Jackson at the piano. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery, the last rites being performed by the Masonic Lodge of Nodaway. Those from a distance attending the services were his sister, Mrs. Emma E. Kelley of Seattle, Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hatfield of St. Louis and Glen Cady of Chicago. Adams County Free Press, March 11, 1937, page 18
