Funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, in Fullerton, with Father Richard Whiting officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery with military rites by Fullerton American Legion Post #151. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service followed by a Knight of Columbus rosary at the church. Steve was born July 21, 1925, to Frank Jacob Sr. and Frances (Shefcyk) Dubas northwest of North Star in Nance County. He attended North Star school for two years, District 60, located three miles west of North Star and then Fullerton High School where he received his honorary diploma. Steve began helping on the family farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army on July 28, 1944, where he served with the Army Paratroopers with the 17th and 13th Airborne Division, 517th Combat team during World War II in Germany, France, Belgium on European Theatre of Operations. He jumped nine times with one combat jump over the Rhine River into Germany. He also served in the 460th Parachute F A Battalion during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 24, 1945. Steve returned to farming 12 miles west of Fullerton. On September 14, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mildred Jean Jurzenski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. To this union seven children were born. They lived east of Wolbach for six years, during this time Steve farmed and worked at Wolbach International Harvester store and Wolbach Implement as a parts man and salesman. They then moved to the North Star area where they resided until moving to a farm 4 1/2 miles west of Fullerton in 1964. In 1977, they moved to Fullerton, but Steve stayed active in farming for many years. Steve raised and sold registered and certified seed wheat, Cargill Seeds, raised livestock and farmed. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where he served as an usher, Fullerton Council #7954 Knights of Columbus, where he was an honorary life member and served in multiple officer positions and was District Deputy. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, life member of the American Legion Post #151. Over the years Steve served on the District 50 school board and also Fullerton School board for nine years, Loup Ferry Township board, was named as an Honorary Fullerton and Nebraska FFA member for his work with FFA over the years, served on the Nance County Weed Board and was a member of the Shorthorn Association for a number of years. He was a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America. Steve enjoyed Polka music, dancing, traveling with and to visit many family members and friends, and all the ball games and activities over the years watching his children and grandchildren participate. Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Fullerton; two daughters, Jean (Robin) Anderson, of Portland, Ore., and Mary Renner, of Fullerton; five sons, Ed (Kendra) Dubas, of Lincoln, Joe (Sandy) Dubas, of Lincoln, Pat (Colette) Dubas, of Woodbine, Iowa, Paul (Teddi) Dubas, of Bennet, and Steve (Michelle) Dubas, of Stromsburg; 10 granddaughters; 11 grandsons; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Phyllis) Dubas, of Columbus, Emil (Kathryn) Dubas, of Palmer, Dan (Betsy) Dubas, of Columbus, Larry (Bonnie) Dubas, of Grand Island; three sisters, Ann Bialas, of Fullerton, Leona Kozak, of Columbus, and Jeanette Urkoski, of Silver Creek; sisters-in-law, Minnie Dubas, of Fullerton, JoAnn Dubas, of Palmer, Marge Dubas, of Columbus and Florence Dubas, of Fullerton; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Frances Dubas; one sister, Helen Kozak; brothers, Leo, Edwin (Dean), Al, and Louis; brothers-in-law, Al Kozak, Louie Bialis, and Ron Yrkoski; and one great-granddaughter, Kaya Hunt.
