Read More	Former Well Know Printer Dies at Wall Lake and is Laid to Rest in Ida Grove Ida Grove Pioneer Record Feb. 11, 1920 A great many people in Ida Grove and Ida county who knew genial "Wat" Kiner, were filled with sincere grief last Saturday upon learning that Mr. Kiner had died the day previous at his home in Wall Lake, from pneumonia, which had stricken him a few days before. Mr. Kiner had been a patient sufferer for the past five years with rheumatism and every effort had been exerted to obtain a cure, but without avail. In his weakened condition, he was not able to offer resistance to dread pneumonia. The remains were brought to Ida Grove Monday afternoon from Wall Lake and a legion of old friends followed his body to its last resting place in Ida Grove cemetery. A brief prayer at the grave was the only ceremonial, the regular funeral service having been held at Wall Lake. Stephen Watson Kiner was born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, July 17, 1866 and was the son of Frank F. Kiner and Eliza Kiner. When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Cairo, Iowa, and in the spring of 1883, to Ida Grove. The father for a time owned the old Ida county Watch, which was later merged with The Pioneer. After working for the Maple Valley Era for a while; "Wat" founded the Record, which was later merged with the Era to form the Ida Grove Record Era. In the fall of 1902, Mr. Kiner moved to Onawa and was connected with the Sentinel until about seven years ago, when he went to Odebolt to take a position with The Chronicle. He remained with them until his health made it increasingly difficult to follow his beloved profession, moving a year ago to Wall Lake. Mr. Kiner was a well known ball player during his residence in Ida Grove, forming a battery with his brother H. A. Kiner, that acquired fame far and wide, "Wat" being the clever pitcher. Mr. Kiner was a master hand in his profession, a person universally loved for his square dealing, his kindness of heart, his sympathy, and his calm, even temperament. Mr. Kiner was married to Miss Emma Brannan, daughter of Thomas S. Brannan in 1891. She survives him, also the following children: Mrs. Edith Sebern of Cherokee, Leslie Kiner of Cherokee, Louis Kiner of Wall Lake, Wilke Kiner of Sac City; also two brothers, H. A. Kiner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Card Kiner of Ida Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Elser and Mrs. Emma Latchaw of Ida Grove. -------------------- WALL LAKE CITIZEN DIES S. W. Kiner Succumbs to Attack of Pneumonia After Brief Illness Former Newspaper Man WALL LAKE, Feb 10 – Special – About midnight on Friday, February 6, after years of suffering from rheumatism which had rendered him nearly helpless, an attack of pneumonia provided fatal to S. W. Kiner, who had been confined to his house, unless taken out in a wheel chair, ever since the family removed to our town, but who has made many friends here in spite of that fact. Though the change from an active life must have been irksome, his cheerfulness and courage did not fail him. Funeral services were held at the house and interment was beside his daughter at Ida Grove. Stephen Watson Kiner was born July 17, 1866, at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was married to Miss Emma E. Brennan at Ida Grove April 30, 1891. To this union five children were born, Leslie, Louis, Mrs. R. C. Sebern, of Cherokee, Ethel who died in infancy and Wilke. Mr. Kiner joined the Presbyterian church in Ida Grove in 1893 and later on removing to Onawa united with the Christian church there. He was a newspaper man all his life, being connected with the Odebolt Chronicle when he had to yield to his affliction and quit active work. The sympathy of all who new him is with the family. Kiner, Establisher of Ida Grove Record, Buried Sunday Special to Times-Republican Ida Grove, Feb. 9. - Burial of S. W. Kiner, a veteran printer and newspaper man, who died at Wall Lake Friday night of last week, took place in the cemetery here Sunday, no services being held here. Mr. Kiner was raised from boyhood in this city, and for more than twenty-five years was employed in the newspaper offices as a printer, and established and published for a number of years the Ida Grove Record, which was consolidated with the Maple Valley Era a number of years ago. He was employed on the Onawa, Iowa Gazette, for several years, from that town moving to Odebolt, where he worked on the Chronicle until he was forced to give up active inside work about three years ago by reason of inflammatory rheumatism. His death was due to that disease and an attack of pneumonia. He was 53 years old, and leaves a wife, three sons and one daughter, and was making his home with a son at Wall Lake when death came.
