Description	:	Susannah married Peter Laycock 22 September 1838 at Waddington, Yorkshire (now Lancashire), England. In September of 1839, their first child, Mary was born. They soon decided to immigrate to America. Peter, Susannah, and their infant daughter, Mary sailed 7 February 1841 from Liverpool, England aboard The Sheffield originating from Horwich. Peter's occupation was listed as "Saddler", indicating he was a leather craftsman, probably building harnesses and equipment for handling livestock. They arrived at the Port of New Orleans on 30 March that year. From there, they took a steamer to St. Louis, where they resided for several years.... Here three more children were born: Martha, 1842; John Alma, 1845; and Elijah, 1848. The following May of 1849, Peter had gone back to New Orleans to help other family members but disaster struck on the return trip; cholera broke out on board. Peter and others fell gravely ill and he died and was buried at Iowa Point the 30th May 1849. Susannah was never notified, and for over a hundred years the family didn't know what had happened to him. Susannah then stayed with her younger sister Alice and Alice's husband, John Ellison, who had immigrated with Peter and Susannah. When the girls' parents arrived at Saint Louis, from England in 1850, they prepared to travel west to the Great Salt Lake Valley. Susannah's youngest son went ahead with her parents, as did her sister's family. Susannah eventually met and married Benjamin F. Woodward, as they both joined the Philemon C. Merrill Company of Wagons which were headed west in 1856. Her parents and siblings settled mostly in Utah and she and Benjamin went on to settle in California. Her daughter, Mary Laycock married Isreal Burnham Warren. Her daughter, Martha "Mattie" Laycock married William B. Carlton. Her son, John Alma Laycock, became an Oregon State Senator and Grant County Judge. He married Josephine Officer. Her son, Elijah Laycock, married (1) Isabella Robbins, who died in Kaysville, Utah and (2) Mary Layton Galbraith; they settled in Raymond, Lethbridge, Alberta Canada.
