Description	:	Sylvester J. "Syl" Beien, 83, Atchison, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Atchison Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict's Church with the Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alpha Christian Children's Home, Perry, and may be left in care of the funeral home. She worked for Eylar Ranch in Denton and broke horses, raised cattle and farmed in Nevada, Mo. He worked at Page Airways for 15 years as foreman of the moving crew and also helped t the Atchison County Sale Barn on weekends. He was born July 14, 1923, in Sterling, Colo., the son of Peter and Elizabeth Conrade Beien. He attended school in Effingham. Mr. Beien enjoyed tinkering on various things, raising cattle and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He married Jean Shockley on Nov. 19, 1942, at St. Benedict's Church. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy and four sisters. Additional survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Charles Wilson; two sons and their wives, Nick and Patti Beien, Cummings, and Ern and Cindy Beien, Cummings; two brothers, Matthew Beien and Theodore Beien, Atchison; a sister, Delphine Shockley, Atchison; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
