Wehmeier Funeral January 12 Sylvis Pearl Wehmeier, the only child of Melvin Ross and Carrie Pearl Bray Campbell was born Saturday, December 24, 1910, on a farm near Huscher, Kansas. She departed this life of 87 years at her home in Glasco Thursday afternoon, January 8, 1998. Sylvia married Cy Carbutt in 1930, and one daughter Yulonda was born to this union which was later dissolved. In November 1952 Sylvia was united in marriage to Alvin H. "Al" Wehmeier at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco, and Sylvia became the step-mother of Alvin's children Mary and Dennis. In 1935 Sylvia established the Gaye Kitchen and Cafe in downtown Glasco. During the next forty-nine years, she enjoyed operating the cafe and tavern, making lots of lasting friendships. She and Al sold the business in 1976. A friendly, light-hearted person, Sylvia enjoyed people. Her sharp, independent and jovial demeanor brought joy to all who knew her. She loved gardening and working with flowers. in addition, she enjoyed crocheting. Sylvia's family was very special to her. She loved the companionship of a family dog, especially dachshunds. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors are her husband Alvin H. "Al" Wehmeier of the home; one daughter Yulonda King and husband Don of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two stepchildren Mary Chilton and husband Bob of Bremerton, Washington, Dennis Wehmeier and wife Sharon of Port Orchard, Washington; two grandchildren, Kelleen Buffon and husband Mike of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Pamela Huish and husband Dr. Steven Huish of Jersey City, New Jersey, one great-grandson Matt Buffon of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and many friends. The funeral for Sylvia was Monday, January 12, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco, Kansas. Pastor Phyllis Nungester officiated. Honorary Bearers were Matt Buffon, R.A. "Mac" McDonald, Dr. Stephen Huish, Leonard Wehmeier and Squeak Wolf. Casket Bearers were Mike Buffon, Ross Kelly, Lorn Joe Schmidt, Andy Heidrick, Don King and Francis Tatro.
