Description	:	Sylvia Sarah Duckett, was born September 2, 1906 on her father's farm near Stanley and died August 12, 1918. She was the third child of Frank and Bird Duckett and leaves to mourn her death three sisters, Edna, Bernice and Jemina, two brothers, Frank and Leonard, and many other relatives including two grandmothers. Last November she was taken with scarlet fever from which she never fully recovered and died with complications resulting from that disease. Read More	Sylvia Sarah Duckett, was born September 2, 1906 on her father's farm near Stanley and died August 12, 1918. She was the third child of Frank and Bird Duckett and leaves to mourn her death three sisters, Edna, Bernice and Jemina, two brothers, Frank and Leonard, and many other relatives including two grandmothers. Last November she was taken with scarlet fever from which she never fully recovered and died with complications resulting from that disease. Her illness lasted several months and at the times suffered severely. Sylvia attended the Stanley school and was a member of the Stanley Union Sunday school. She was a bright scholar, had a pleasant, friendly disposition and will be greatly missed by all her relatives, her young friends and all who knew her. Sylvia was conscious to the last and bid her family a loving goodbye and said she would see them again. After a brief services of song and prayer at the home, she was carried to Stanley, where, in the Union church, the funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon, August 14, Dr. Frank P. Shaffer, of Oelwein, spoke from Rev. 21:4, "And God shall wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are done away." The pallbearers were Emerson Hillman, Alfred Smith, Kyle White, Milton Zabriskie, Henry Michaels, Dillman Day, and the honorary bearers were from Sylvia's Sunday school class; Doris Clarke, Annie Speas, Myrtle Brownell, Marie Lincoln, Dorothy Sherman, Eva Stewart. Attended by a large circle of relatives, numbering sixty-four, besides friends and school mates, her precious body was carried to the Stanley cemetery and laid lovingly to rest.
