The Rev. Gordon Kling officated as well as Rev. Bernard A. Rust, a long time family friend. A prayer service for the family preceded the church service at the Boughton Funeral Home. Six grandsons, Leonard Leerar; Duane Leerar; Roger Leerar; Dick Leerar; Lyle Munson and Randy Gremmer were the casket bearers. Mrs. Leerar was laid to rest in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery. Tena Leerar, daughter of Jacob and Cornelia Weiland-Sweers was born March 25, 1885 at Emden, Hannover, Germany. In infancy she received baptism and received her first education in Germany. When five years of age she came to America with her parents, first to Parkersburg, Iowa, then to near Britt where her parents became farmers. She completed her education in Boone Township, southwest of Britt and was united in marriage to Joseph Leerar Mar. 30, 1906. The couple established their home on a farm near Britt. Their home was blessed with 6 sons and 4 daughters, Jake; William; Herman; Caroline; Esther; Fred; Alvin; Ruth; Hilda; and Edward. Mr. and Mrs. Leerar were affiliated with the United Brethren church at Stilson with their family when they resided in that community. On Sept. 29, 1957 Mr. Leerar died. The family circle had been broken before when the daughter Hilda died at the age of 2 and Edward at the age of one and one-half years. Following the death of Mrs. Leerar's parents, she established her home in the Sweers home on West Third Street, where she has resided the past number of years. For the past 4 years she has been somewhat in failing health, and confined to her home and the hospital. Late Wednesday afternoon she quietly slept away at the Hancock Memorial Hospital having attained the age of 86 years, 6 months and 25 days. She is survived by her children, Jake, (his wife Vesta), Corwith; William (his wife Ann), Britt; Herman (his wife Lula), Britt; Caroline, and her husband, Orville Slagle, Phoenix, Ariz; Esther and her husband, Leonard Munson, Mason City; Fred (and his wife Elsie) Kanawha; Alvin and his wife (Bertha), Britt and Ruth and her husband Eppo Gremmer Jr., Britt; 33 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Mrs. John (Hannah) Brouwer, Britt; one brother Herman Sweers, Britt and one sister-in-law Mrs. Sena Sweers. In addition to her parents; her husband and two children was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters, John; Ben; Jake; George; Grace; Carrie; Anna then Mrs. Walter Smidt and two others in infancy."
