Read More	Thank you to Joan Murray for this: Theotes Murray Theotes Murray was born on 10 October 1858 in Morgan County, Ohio, the son of Nancy Murray, an umarried daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Detro Murray. Nancy Murray and her son Theotes continued to live with her parents outside of McConnellsville, Ohio during Theotes’ early life. Nancy already had one older son named Orton born in 1842, and a daughter named Electa born in 1845. Nancy Murray never married and she continued to use the Murray name until her death, and left no record as to who the father of her children might have been. When Samuel Murray died his will named his wife Elizabeth Detro Murray and all his children. Orton, Electa and Theotes were not named in his will. After Samuel’s death, the farm was sold. Nancy Murray, Orton, Electa and Theotes moved from Ohio to Iowa along with Elizabeth, now 66 years old, her son, John and his wife, Eliza and their daughter Maud, and her son George and his wife, Roena with their children Fernando and Belle. After staying for a brief amount of time in Iowaville, Van Buren County, they moved on and settled in Marion, Linn County, Iowa. Elizabeth and Samuel’s daughter Rachel, who had married John Cooper had three children: Loren, Samuel, and Albert and had previously moved to Marion, Iowa. Other members of Samuel’s family also moved to Iowa over the years. Theotes grew up in Marion, and spent the rest of his life in Marion, Iowa, working for the railroad, marrying Jane (Jennie) Ellis in 1885 and raising three children: Verna, Myrtle, and LeRoy. Theotes’ mother Nancy spent most of her free time weaving on a large loom set up in their home. Daughter, Myrtle married John Stoneburner, and remained in Iowa for the rest of her life, dying in Dubuque. Daughter, Verna, married George Mott and moved to California. Henry LeRoy worked for the railroad in Marion, Iowa. Roy (as he was known) and John Mullins (a Marion pal) built an airplane in 1913, which Roy later crashed flying in a circus in Louisiana. Roy transferred from Iowa to Minnesota with the railroad, enlisted in World War I , and returned to Minnesota after the war where he married Clara Pliska. Eventually the railroad transferred him to Chicago, Illinois where he and Clara raised two boys, Bryce and Richard. He died at the age of 50. On August 24, 1937 at the age of 80, Theotes died in Marion, after falling from a ladder while painting his two-story home. He was buried in Oak Shade Cemetery along with his mother Nancy and grandmother, Elizabeth. Not long after that, the home was sold and Theotes’ wife Jane moved to Dubuque, Iowa to live with her daughter Myrtle.
