Mr. Anderson died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at his home. He was born July 21, 1933, in Pierre, S.D., the son of Floyd Forrest and Josephine Callan Anderson. He was raised in White River and Huron. He moved to Lawrence in 1979 from Salem, N.D. Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was director of special projects for Kansas University Center for Environmental Education, where he designed the lead abatement training programs. He was director of Kansas University Facilities Operations, where he helped establish the asbestos program and other environmental initiatives. He worked at Kansas University for 24 years. He also worked for many years in the power-plant industry in the United States and abroad. He was involved in mechanical, civil, and structural engineering and construction management for more than 30 years. He was also a supervisor and driver for Lawrence Transit Company. He was a hunter education safety instructor. He was a member of the Motorcycle Touring Assn., Washington Creek Muzzle Loaders, Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 of the American Legion, Alford-Clarke Post 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1754. He was a past board member of the Lawrence Housing Authority, KU Credit Union Board of Directors, chairman of Valley View Nursing Home Board, Fraternal Order of Police and many other civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Anderson married Beverlie Gard on Feb. 13, 1954, in Carson City, Nev. She survives of the home. Other survivors include six daughters, Diannia Affalter, Kelly McCleary, Gayle E. Anderson and Cindy Anderson, all of Lawrence, Susan Anderson, Kansas City, Mo., and Patrice Anderson, Baldwin; a son, Thomas F. Anderson II, Ottawa; and 13 grandchildren.
