Description	:	Thomas Fredrick Kintigh, 70, of Ottumwa, died August 12, 2021 at his home. Tom was born August 25, 1950 in Cherokee, Iowa to Raymond and Mari Ann Kintigh. Tom graduated from Cherokee Washington High School and attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1973, magna cum laude, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Tom was born August 25, 1950 in Cherokee, Iowa to Raymond and Mari Ann Kintigh. Tom graduated from Cherokee Washington High School and attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1973, magna cum laude, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1975, and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1975. Tom began his professional career as the first attorney serving Legal Aid in Wapello County. He joined the Wapello County Attorney's office and following the retirement of Samuel O. Erhardt, he ran for and was elected Wapello County Attorney and served two terms. Following his departure from the County Attorney's office, he joined Griffin and Dew and continued his practice in that firm. Tom was appointed Ottumwa City Attorney. He also served as City Attorney for Kirkville, Hedrick and Chillicothe, among others. In 2017, Tom joined Gaumer, Emanuel, Carpenter & Goldsmith, P.C., where he practiced until his retirement in 2020. Tom was a member of the Wapello County Bar Association, serving as President, a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, American Bar Association and served as President and on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Legal Services Corporation. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Ottumwa Tom loved bicycling with friends, and participated in RAGBRAI several years. He enjoyed golf, cigars and travel, particularly a recent trip to Ireland and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed gathering with his large circle of friends. Surviving are his cousins, Stanley Kintigh of Minnetonka, MN, Janice Pingel of Cherokee IA, Betty Smith of Cherokee IA and Margaret Becker of Tarpon Springs FL; and many friends. His body has been cremated. Private inurnment will be held at a later date next to his parents at Cedar Cemetery in Larrabee, Iowa. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at Pallister Brothers on September 2, 2021, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Published on August 24, 2021 Ottumwa Courier
