Description	:	Obit: Thomas Hodge Sr., was born in Slamawan, Sterlingshire, Scotland, March 18, 1832. Here he grew to young manhood and in 1862 he married Agnes Barrie. In the year 1868 they came to America, settling at Stirling, Illinois. After four years they came to Tama Co., Iowa, where death claimed the young wife. He moved to Cherokee Co., Iowa, in 1882. Here he was married to Miss Jennie Clark of Stirling, Illinois. They started their home life near Washta, Iowa, thus being among the first to settle in that neighborhood, living in this vicinity... Read More	Obit: Thomas Hodge Sr., was born in Slamawan, Sterlingshire, Scotland, March 18, 1832. Here he grew to young manhood and in 1862 he married Agnes Barrie. In the year 1868 they came to America, settling at Stirling, Illinois. After four years they came to Tama Co., Iowa, where death claimed the young wife. He moved to Cherokee Co., Iowa, in 1882. Here he was married to Miss Jennie Clark of Stirling, Illinois. They started their home life near Washta, Iowa, thus being among the first to settle in that neighborhood, living in this vicinity until his death on November 18, 1919. He was also a pioneer in the church, uniting with the Evangelical association February 13, 1886, transferring his membership from the Established Church of Scotland, which he joined early in life. "Uncle Tommie" as he was familiarly called, was always a friend to those who needed one. No one appealed to him for help in vain. In the early days, when times were often hard for early settlers, he was ever ready to help the needy, thus living his religion and winning the love and friendship of his neighbors. He remained a loyal and devoted member of the church of his choice until his death. His death was due to the infirmities of the aged, he being 87 years and 8 months old. Survivors include his wife, six children, Mrs. Nettie Powell of Pierson, Mrs. Anna Lease of Washta, George M. of Washta, Mrs. Agnes Crippen of Toledo, Iowa, William C. and Thomas B. Jr. who reside at home and rendered loving serving in helping to care for their father in his last illness, and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Morning Star Church with Rev. C.M. Yaggy of Blairstown officiating, assisted by Rev. Brauch. Interment was in Grand Meadow Cemetery. Pallbearers included N.M. Lease, James England, Lake Davison, William Blue, Jud McQueen, and W.J. Carver. Note: Daughter Anna (Mrs. Marion H. Lease) is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Madison, Lake Co., South Dakota - Findagrave Memorial # 101308120
