Wilkins was born in Wayne Co., Ohio April 2, 1836 and departed this life March 26, 1910 at his home in Victor, Iowa, at the age of 73 years 11 months and 24 days. In the fall of 1851 he moved from Ohio to LaSalle Co. IL., where he remained a few years then returned to Ohio and attended the Hayesville Academy. In 1856 he moved to Henry Co. Wilkins was born in Wayne Co., Ohio April 2, 1836 and departed this life March 26, 1910 at his home in Victor, Iowa, at the age of 73 years 11 months and 24 days. In the fall of 1851 he moved from Ohio to LaSalle Co. IL., where he remained a few years then returned to Ohio and attended the Hayesville Academy. In 1856 he moved to Henry Co. IL., and in 1859 crossed the Plains to Cal. with a party, where he remained until 1863, returning then to Ottawa, IL, where on Dec. 17, 1864 he was married to Miss R. M. Gibbs. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. In the fall of 1875 he with his family came to Iowa where he engaged in farming near Victor. In 1898 he left the farm and moved into town where he continued to reside until his death. His two sons preceded him to the better world and he leaves to mourn his loss a wife, two daughters, and one daughter-in-law and granddaughter besides other relatives and a large number of loving friends and acquaintances. At the time of his death he was one of the trustees of Hartford Township having held this office for several years. Mr. Wilkins was a true active business member of the community in which he lived, always ready to help those in need. He had a very sunny disposition and a smile and glad word for everyone with whom he came in contact. The funeral was held at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. J. Hamilton. The services at the grave were in charge of the M. W. A., with G. B. Fullmer as Consul and Master of Ceremonies. Burial was made in the family lot in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
