He had been installing spouting on the dwelling and fell from the ladder. His neck was broken and he was gone before help reached him. Crawford at the piano. Interment was in Masonic cemetery, near Tipton, the Odd Fellows having the burial service. Thomas Jefferson Highly was born on the family farm about six miles south of Tipton on January 20, 1871. He was one of seven children of Thomas Highly and Catherine Roeser Highly. He was an honest and industrious man, diligent in his work and ever ready to lend a helping hand where needed. Surviving are his wife, Margaret F. Highly, three sons, Albert B. of Tipton; F. Merrel of Bartlerr, Ill.; and E.L. of New York; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Ridenour of Jeffers, Minn., and Mrs. Mary Melson of Tipton; also one brother, Mr. Jno. F. Highly of Tipton; and four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was an active member of Manitou Lodge No. 8 I.O.O.F. and of Helping Hand Rebekah Lodge 517, of Tipton. For the last 30 years he conducted a plumbing, heating, windmill and general repair business in Tipton community.
