Thomas Jefferson Thompson was born September 22, 1832 near Rockford, Indiana and was 83 years, 6 months, and 26 days. He came to Iowa in 1852 and lived in Montgomery and Adams Counties until his death. He married Mary Ann Descombes on January 16, 1859 in Villisca, Iowa. To them five daughters were born, the wife dying in 1873. He was married to Emma J. Strain on May 19, 1975 in Villisca, Iowa and two children were born to them. The second wife died in March 1881. The living children are Nevada Thompson and Mrs. Ed Cartwright of Nodaway, Mrs. Lou Gourley of Villisca, Mrs. J. A. Griffith of Nodaway, Frank Thompson of Villisca, and he also leaves one sister, Mrs. Ann Parcher of Nodaway. All attended the funeral. Mr. Thompson united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church 41 years ago and remained in that faith until death. Adams County Free Press, Corning, Iowa, Saturday, April 29, 1916, page 4 DEATH OF THOMAS THOMPSON Thomas Jefferson Thompson, for thirty years a resident of Nodaway and vicinity, died at his home in Nodaway Tuesday afternoon at about 1:45. The cause of his death was a number of old age complications. Thomas Thompson was a man more than 83 years of age. He came to Adams County and settled a few miles from Nodaway about 30 years ago. He moved from the farm to Nodaway to take up his residence. Five children, one son and four daughter survive the deceased. They are, Mrs. Ed Cartwright and Mrs. Lon Gourley of northeast of this city; Frank Thompson of near Nodaway, and Mrs. T. Griffith and Miss A. Thompson of Nodaway. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Presbyterian Church in Nodaway and interment was made in the Villisca Cemetery.
