He was born Dec., 4, 1832 and departed this life Dec. 4, 1917, aged 84 years, 1 mont and 24 days. He was married to Miss Francis Skipper August 19, 1858. To them were born 10 children. The second Arnold McKefer, died in infancy, the seventh, Mrs. Francis Galven Alford died April 25, 1916. The eight viz: John Thomas, Rev. Mitchel Asbury, Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Williamson, Wm. Kelly, Jasper Elwell, Gilbert McDuffey, Wade Jackson and Arthur Cornelius McCracken. He has 30 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, making a total of 42. He professed religion and united with the Baptist Church during the war in the sixties, between the North and the South. He has been afflicted with blindness for several years, yet he and his feeble wife, who still survives him lived to a good old age, having the confidence and esteem of a host of neighbors and friends, as a good man, honest, honorable, neigborly and upright, and whatever his limitations all was meant good. The writer visited him three times during his brief aquaintance had prayers with him in which he manifested special interest and seemed to grealy encouraged, cheered, comforted, and his spiritual life quickened. We are informed that immediatley after the first visit, last Spring, he erected the family altar and kept it up; and conducted prayer service on Friday night following which he became seriously ill some time during the night, after which he was unable to speak, and continued to grow weak until he passed away Sunday evening at 3:20. To his son, Rev. Asbury and other to the writer as well perhaps as others he expressed himself as being prepared to leave this world, and left satisfactory assurance that he has gone home. A good man has gone; his race is run. His place and face will be missed at home. May his loved ones meet him in the Heavenly hoem, where they will be happy forever more around God's throne. He was funeralized by the writer and his earthly remains were laid to rest at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Horry County S.C., Jan. 29, 1917.
