On Nov 13, 1956, he married Delores 'Dolly' Siefring, who preceded him in death eight day prior. Surviving are four sons: Tom J., Chatsworth, GA, Jim (Teresa), Sidney, Joe, St. Marys, and Tony (Kimberly), Wichita, KS; a daughter, Jean (Danny) McHugh, Lewis Center; two brothers: Dave (Georgia), Lewisburg, and Bill (Mary), Portland, IN; a sister, Marlene Knapke, Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hemmelgarn, Chicago, IL; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are an infant son and brother, both linked below; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Knapke. A graduate of St. Henry High School, he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War in Japan and Okinawa. A farmer, he worked in the accounting department at the former Avco New Idea, Coldwater. He was a former commander and member of the American Legion, Osgood, and was currently a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coldwater, and the American Legion, Ft. Recovery. He served on the honor guard of all three of the military posts. He served as a volunteer for the Center for Neurological Development, Burkettsville, was an advisor for the St. Henry 4-H Club and was a former member of the Mercer County Fair Board. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, and the church's Holy Name Society. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife at the various area dance halls. He also enjoyed playing cards with the poker club, bowling and spending time outdoors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, with Rev. Tom Hemm officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery.
