(Source: Iowa Marriages Index) ================================================== Thomas Oliver Parrish was born near Greencastle, Indiana, August 5th, 1851, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, December 12th, 1916, having reached the age of 65 years, 4 months and 7 days. As a young man he came to Iowa, where on November 16th, 1871, he was married to Miss Joan Crawford. God gave them four children, one of whom died in infancy, while the others are still living, namely: Lily, now Mrs. Bart Long, Charlie, living south east of town, and Jessie, now Mrs. M.M. Stiner, who with her family moved to Colorado last spring. These are the mother's comfort in the loss of the father. Mr. and Mrs. Parrish belong to the early settlers of Nuckolls county (sic). They came here in 1881 and improved a farm north west of town. After a while they sold out and tried Montana for a year and six months. Then they made their home in Missouri for five years, but finally came back to this county and for the last few years have lived in Nelson. Mr. Parrish was universally esteemed as a kind nighbor (sic) and helpful friend. He was suddenly taken ill about a week ago and had to submit to a serious operation. But the general condition of his health was against him and he passed away at the hospital, his loved ones being at the bedside. The entire community shares in this sorrow. May the sorrowing hearts be comforted by the heavenly Father who doth all things well. "One sweetly solemn thought Comes to me o'er and o'er; I'm nearer home today Than I have been before."
