Read More	SOURCE: THE MONTICELLO EXPRESS, MONTICELLO, IOWA, MARCH 9, 1944, PAGE 1 TOBIAS TOBIASON DIES SUNDAY, FUNERAL MARCH 8 Tobias Tobiason, veteran of World War I, died Sunday morning at 4:45 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Riedel. He had been in failing health for 24 years. He was cared for by his mother until her death in April, 1938, thereafter by Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Stickford for two and a half years. He was taken to the Veterans Hospital but returned to Monticello shortly thereafter and had been cared for since that time by Mr. and Mrs. Emil Riedel. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Goettsch funeral funerl home and at 3 o'clock at Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township. Rev. F. H. Kehren, Lutheran pastor, was in charge of both services. Members of Arthur P. O'Rourke Post, American Legion, had charge of the military interment services at the grave. Tobiason was born June 24, 1894, and was baptized August 6, 1894, and confirmed April 12, 1905, by Rev. C. Mardorf. His parents were Juergen and Alkha Tobiason. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Stutt and Mrs. Dora Schoon, and two brothers, Michael and Henry Tobiason, and 19 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Ed Stutt, Miss Johanna Tobiason, and Mrs. Gerd Tholen. He was reared on a farm in Wayne township, attended the rural schools, and was inducted into the U. S. army July 29, 1915, and served in World War I until February, 1920, with the Lafayette Engineer division. * * * * * * * * * * * NOTE: Information provided by Steve Hanken...Buried with his parents although he was known as Tobias Tobiason rather than the Tobiassen name found on the family tombstone.
