Read More	Shorty Vanzant Tom Will, Shorty, Vanzant was born near Shelbyville on October 1, 1934, the son of William Shelby and Lovie Rochelle Stone Vanzant. He graduated in 1953 from Shelbyville High School. On March 21, 1965, he was united in marriage to Becky Kirby at the Kendall Church. He worked for many people around Shelbyville both before and after his four years in the United States Air Force. He later worked at the Citizen’s Bank of Shelbyville and then was the last chief officer of the Farmer’s Bank of Emden. When the bank closed on December 13, 1969, he entered a life-long partnership of farming with his brother-in-law, Charles Kirby. Shorty was a charter member of the Shelby County Saddle Club and spent many hours and years working for that cause. He loved, bred, trained and showed horses most of his life. He and Becky led the 4-H horsemanship project for over 30 years. He loved his coon dogs and hunting with many friends over the years. He especially enjoyed taking young people hunting and teaching them the ins and outs of the sport. He intricately restored many pieces of horse drawn machinery and a couple of old tractors. Shorty attended the Kendall church and so enjoyed the fellowship there. He loved all of his nieces and nephews and all the neighborhood kids, many of whom considered him their grandpa. His friends and family were very important to him. He would always tell people when they were having a rough time that the best thing they could do was to talk to God about it. He is survived by his wife Becky and brothers, Weldon (Phyllis), Harry and Jim (Mary Lu) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Olive Peters, sister-in-law Carolyn and nephew, Chris Kirby. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, with burial to follow at Kendall Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be made to Oak Dale Cemetery Association.
