Ullrich Duncan Smith, son of Henry and Jessie Smith, was born on the old Smith homestead, north of Akron, in Union county, S.D., July 10, 1875, and was 71 years and 11 months of age at the time of his death.... Ullrich Duncan Smith, son of Henry and Jessie Smith, was born on the old Smith homestead, north of Akron, in Union county, S.D., July 10, 1875, and was 71 years and 11 months of age at the time of his death. He was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Biddlecome, of Akron, member of a pioneer family here on December 14, 1909. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1912. U.D., as he was always called by relatives and friends, was a lover of all out-door activities and he was especially well known as a hunter and fisherman, and for his general friendliness and sociability. He farmed in South Dakota and Iowa in the neighborhood of Akron all his life, except for the few years spent in town while his wife was yet living. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Boden, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. James Agnes, of Akron, and Mrs. H.W. Peterson, of Alcester S.D., and four brothers, Dan, Henry B., Fred and John, all of Akron; also by a great many nieces and nephews. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends at the funeral services held in the First Baptist church in Akron last Thursday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ellis L, Jackson. Mrs. Hugh W. Swift sang. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
