Description	:	Ulrich Yost, son of Fred and Lillie Oppliger Yost, was born April 5, 1905 at Ransom, Kansas and departed this life on Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at the Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, Kansas at the age of 92 years. Ulrich lived with his parents and siblings on a farm near Modoc, Kansas until 1919 when they moved to a farm south of Ransom. Read More	Ulrich Yost, son of Fred and Lillie Oppliger Yost, was born April 5, 1905 at Ransom, Kansas and departed this life on Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at the Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, Kansas at the age of 92 years. Ulrich lived with his parents and siblings on a farm near Modoc, Kansas until 1919 when they moved to a farm south of Ransom. He attended Free Will Country School and graduated from Ransom High School in 1925. He attended Business College at Dodge City, Kansas for a short time before returning to Ransom. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Cofer on May 20, 1940 at Hays. To this union three children were born. Evelyn passed away June 2, 1958. Ulrich and Evelyn had operated the Ransom telephone office and he had been a farmer most of his life, living on the farm where he was born and raising his family there. In his earlier years he especially liked to play baseball and later he enjoyed the game of golf. He was a National Weather Observer for many years and was a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Ransom Lions Club and Senior Citizens Center. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Ransom Coop, Ness County Farm Bureau and the former Ransom Telephone Board as well as Township Trustee. He moved from his farm home into Ransom in 1972 and retired from farming in 1984. In his later years he had lost most of his eyesight and was no longer able to drive his car so you would see him getting about town in his golf cart. He also enlisted the aid of family and friends to drive him to appointments and to eat out. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Fred, Charles and Albert; two sisters, Anna Jaehde and Jennie Rufenacht. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Schreiber and husband Bill of Ransom; two sons, Larry Yost and wife Connie of Bazine and Glen Yost and wife Vangie of Sacramento, CA; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one brother, William Yost and wife Mildred of Garden City; many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, June 6, 1997, at the Mennonite Church in Ransom with Pastor Marjorie Ediger officiating. Burial was in the Ransom Cemetery. Ness Co. News, June 12, 1997
