Description	:	Vaclav Kobliska, was born in 1820 in Bohemia, son of John Kobliska and Catherine Bila, natives of that country. He died September 7, 1881 at Spillville, Winneshiek County, Iowa, aged about 61 years. He also used the names Wenceslaus and James, the English translations of the Czechoslovakian name Vaclav. He and his wife Eleanora came to Iowa in 1859, applied for citizenship in 1860, and received it 1866. Vaclav was married twice with his first marriage to Catherine Vodrazka. She was born in 1833 and died in 1856 aged about 23 years. They were the parents of four children... He and his wife Eleanora came to Iowa in 1859, applied for citizenship in 1860, and received it 1866. Vaclav was married twice with his first marriage to Catherine Vodrazka. She was born in 1833 and died in 1856 aged about 23 years. They were the parents of four children born in Bohemia between 1851 - 1855, of which only one survived infancy: The surviving child was: Barbora Kobliska born 1851 Barbora would have been about eight years of age when her father and his second wife immigrated to the United States. There are no records that have been found that she accompanied them to the United States. In about 1856, Vaclav was united in marriage to Eleanora Bruna, born June 10, 1833 in Slavetice, Bohemia, parents unknown. Eleanora died March 6, 1922, at Spillville, Iowa, aged 89 years and 9 months. Both she and Vackav are buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Their ten children of whom the first named was born in Bohemia and the rest in Iowa, were: Frank Wenceslaus born Sep 1858, d. 1958 Anne Mary (Marie) 12 Apr 1861, 7 Apr 1941 Vaclav F. (James) 11 Sep 1864 1938 Matej J. (Matt or Mike) 24 Feb 1870 22 Nov 1935 Anne M. 4 Apr 1872 25 Aug 1965 Joseph Louis 22 Mar 1874, 19 Aug 1957 John ca. 1877 They were also the parents of three other children whose names, dates of birth dates and place of birth are unknown. The 1900 U.S. census revealed that four of the ten children were deceased by that time. Wenceslaus, his wife and their son Frank, immigrated to this country in 1860, coming directly to Spillville, Iowa, where they settled on a farm and endured all the hardships usual to pioneer farmers in that part of Iowa. According to US Census reports they were both naturalized in 1860, presumably shortly after their arrival in Spillville. Elanore lived on the farm until her death of old age. In the 1870 U.S. Census, Wensel Kobiska was listed as a 50 years old farmer with $1900 worth of real estate and $600 worth of personal property living in Calmer Township, Winnieshiek County, Iowa, with his 40 years old wife Eleonora, and their children: Frank, age 11; Mary, age 9; Ann, age 6; and 5 months old Mike Kobliska. Their post office was Spillville, Iowa. In the 1880 U.S. Census, James Kobliska was listed as a 53 years old farmer living in Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa, with his 46 years old wife Lena and their children: Frank, age 20; Mathias, age 10; and 6 years old Joseph Kobliska. They were listed in the census just after the family of Mathias and Mary Kobliska. In the 1900 U.S. Census, Eleonora Kobliska was listed as a 67 years old widow living in Calmar Township, Winneshick County, Iowa, with her 28 years old son Mathias Kobliska. She was the mother of 10 children of whom 4 were deceased. In the 1910 U.S. Census, Eleonora Kobliska was listed as a 75 years old widow living in Calmar Township with her 37 years old son Mathias Kobliska, an unmarried farmer, who owned his farm free and clear. She was again listed as the mother of 10 children of whom 4 were deceased. In the 1920 U.S. Census, Elnora was an 88 years old widow, living in Calmar Township, Winneshick County, Iowa, with her 49 year old son Math Kobliska, a farmer.
