Born April 12, 1909, in Wayland, she was the daughter of David and Naomi Kinney Rich. She married Arthur R. Messer Feb. 2, 1937. in Wayland. He died Dec. 20, 1949. She was formerly of Davenport and Bettendorf. She worked for many years at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of Cottonwood Methodist Church in Wayland. Born April 12, 1909, in Wayland, she was the daughter of David and Naomi Kinney Rich. She married Arthur R. Messer Feb. 2, 1937. in Wayland. He died Dec. 20, 1949. She was formerly of Davenport and Bettendorf. She worked for many years at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of Cottonwood Methodist Church in Wayland. Survivors include three daughters, Norma Meyer, Ruth Messer and Elizabeth Rugg, all of Wayland; four sons, Russell Rich of Lockridge, Robert Rich of Wayland, Roger Messer of Williford, Ark., and David Messer of Iowa City; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Freda Sinn and Minnie Peterson, both of Wayland, Lola Bower of Washington, and Ada Kindig of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wayland Mennonite Church, with the Revs. Don Coffin and Steve Good officiating. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery, near Trenton. Memorials have been established to Cottonwood Methodist Church and the Altzheimer's Foundation.
