Description	:	Velma Marie Foster, 84 years of age, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born on February 28, 1927 on the family farm north of Holbrook in Furnas County, Nebraska, one of seven children of Fred William and Mary Alice (Martin) Stagemeyer. Read More	Velma Marie Foster, 84 years of age, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born on February 28, 1927 on the family farm north of Holbrook in Furnas County, Nebraska, one of seven children of Fred William and Mary Alice (Martin) Stagemeyer. Velma was baptized and confirmed at the St. Matthews Church, northeast of Holbrook. Velma also received her education at the St. Matthews Parochial School. On November 8, 1946 Velma was united in marriage to George G. Foster at Norton, Kansas and to this union five children were born: Dennis, Douglas, James, Deanna, and Richard. The couple made their home in Arapahoe and other communities, before moving to Stamford, where they resided since 1955. Velma focused her efforts and devoted her life to raising the children and caring for their home, while George was a heavy equipment operator in the area. For several years, Velma was employed at Becton-Dickinson at Holdrege as well. Later in years, she continued to devote her life to the next generation, her grandchildren. On May 3, 1999, George preceded Velma in death. Velma was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, and also a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary. Besides her husband, George, Velma was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: George and Bernice Foster; granddaughter, Stefanie; sisters: Gladys Bueachamp, Lucille Story, Alice Neimier and Doris Mai; and brother, Joe Stagemeyer. Velma leaves to mourn her passing: sons: Dennis Foster and his wife, Susan, and Douglas Foster all of Stamford, James Foster, and his wife, Susan of Hillsdale, Wyoming and Richard Foster of Stamford; daughter, Deanna Reynolds and her husband, Kent of Loomis, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; brother, Harold Stagemeyer and his wife, Ethel of Beaver City, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends. Burial was in the Stamford Cemetery, Stamford, NE.
