Ve Wille was born March 25, 1920, to Alfred and Irene (Jensen) Cook in Highland Township, Clayton County, Iowa, where she spent her childhood. She attended rural school, graduating from Elgin High School in 1937 and Upper Iowa University in 1940. She was an elementary teacher in rural schools, Fayette, Monona, St. Joseph's Parochial School in Elkader and at the Garnavillo Community School. She owned and operated the Side Door Arts & Craft and Coffee Shop in Garnavillo in 1983. On February 26, 1946, Ve married Paul Wille at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo. They were the parents of four children. She and Paul helped found the Clayton County Association for Retarded Citizens, and she was a strong advocate for this cause for years. Ve lived a creative and involved life. She was known for her many talents and skills, her boundless energy. She was a creative seamstress and artist who taught classes in painting and ceramics. She was an avid bridge player and teacher of the game. Ve Wille died Monday, Nov. 14, 1994, at Guttenberg Muncipal Hospital following a lengthy illness. Survivors include her husband, Paul; two daughters, Susan and her husband Larry Lacterman and grandson Kiva of Eugene, Ore., and Jean Ann Wille, Garnavillo; a son William Wille of Laural, Maryland; two sisters, Burma Cook and friend Bill Crane of Elkader and Judith Siebrecht, Clermont, and brother Merton Cook and friend Alberta French of Elkader. She was preceded in death by her parents and son David Wille in 1983. +++ David W. Wille died June 1, 1983 in Garden Grove, California.
