Description	:	Vernie Wilken May 30, 1928-Jan. 25, 2006 Vernie Wilken, the son of Carl and Anna Wilken, was born on May 30, 1928 in Schleswig, Iowa. Vern was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and grew up in the rural Schleswig area. He enlisted into the Army during World War II and served in the occupation of Japan. Vern was married to Marjorie Kuhlmann of Charter Oak. He was a trucker most of his life and also liked to work with heavy duty equipment. Read More	Vernie Wilken May 30, 1928-Jan. 25, 2006 Vernie Wilken, the son of Carl and Anna Wilken, was born on May 30, 1928 in Schleswig, Iowa. Vern was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and grew up in the rural Schleswig area. He enlisted into the Army during World War II and served in the occupation of Japan. He did caterpillar and boom work for Bohlmann Inc. for several years. He enjoyed his dogs, gardening and visiting with people. Vern died Wednesday, January 25th at the Denison Care Center at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Luetta and Florence and one son-in-law, Henry "Butch" Boettger. He is survived by daughters: Dawn Boettger; Diane and her husband, John Boettger of Denison. Sons: Neil and wife Kay of Schleswig; Mark and wife Kim of Denison. Also by seven grandchildren: Michael and Robert Boettger; Staci and David Boettger; Jessica Wilken Lehan; Melissa and Grant Wilken; six great-grandchildren: Emily, Anna and August Boettger; Ryan and Carly Lehan; and Autumn Helkenn. One sister: Irene Bloom. Private grave side services were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2006 at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Dennis Huebner officiated the services.
