Description	:	VERNON SAMUEL GALLUP was born March 8, 1912, in rural Lyons, Nebraska, to George and Clara (Thompson) Gallup. He passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years. Vernon was a life-long resident of the Lyons Community. Read More	VERNON SAMUEL GALLUP was born March 8, 1912, in rural Lyons, Nebraska, to George and Clara (Thompson) Gallup. He passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years. Vernon was a life-long resident of the Lyons Community. He spent most of his childhood on the farm southeast of town, except for six years, when his family moved into Lyons following the death of his mother in 1918. Vernon attended the Viles School through the tenth grade and graduated from Lyons High School in 1930. On January 30, 1934, Vernon and Madeline Randerson were united in marriage at the old Lyons Methodist parsonage. To this union two daughters: Mary Jane and Magel were born. Vernon enjoyed his life of farming for 43 years and took great pride in his farm. He always kept his fields weed free, his home well maintained and his buildings well painted. Vernon was the recipient of numerous Soil Conservation awards for his farming. The United Methodist Church has always been an important part of his life. Until the last few years, Vernon seldom missed a Sunday service. As a very small boy, he and his family would ride to church in a horse drawn surrey to attend Sunday morning and evening services. Vernon has held many offices in the church, where he has been a member since 1925. Vernon also served on the Viles School Board and for many years served on the Lyons Cemetery Board. Vernon always liked to recall when they planted the pine trees in the newer part of the cemetery. In 1977, Vernon and Madeline sold their farm and moved into a new home in Lyons. He took just as much pride in this home in town as he did the farm. Madeline passed away on May 1, 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Mary Olson; his beloved wife, Madeline; and son-in-law, Kosoma Skaggs. Survivors include his daughters & son-in-law: Mary Jane Skaggs of Lamar, Colorado, Magel and Robert Selders of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, Nebraska. VISITATION: Wednesday 1- 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services Lyons. Visitation will also be held Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Memorial United Methodist Church, Lyons, NE
