He went to Union, Colorado, with his parents as a child, from Illinois and lived there nine years; then moved to Nebraska, near Nelson where he grew to manhood. He went to Union, Colorado, with his parents as a child, from Illinois and lived there nine years; then moved to Nebraska, near Nelson where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Ida Jeanette Kauffman March 22, 1905. She passed away during the flu epidemic on November 23, 1918. To this union three daughters were born: Nova May, Moina Jeanette, Wilma Pearl. Nova departed this life three days preceding her mother's death at the age of 11 years. Virgel and the girls made their home with his parents until January 7, 1920, when he married Nellie Josephine Wehrman. To this union four children were born, one son and three daughters: Florence Illah, Doris June, Ceril (sic) Virgel, and Irene Nellie. They lived near Nelson until about four years ago, when they had to go to Colorado for Virgel's health. Through all his severe suffering with the help and loving care of his wife, he was always patient and hopeful to the end. He confessed his faith in Christ in 1929, and has been a true Christian. He leaves to mourn his death, his loving wife, Nellie, and children, Moina Jeanette Leamen, Marion, Illinois, Wilma Pearl DaMoude, Nelson, Florence Illah Rutt, Lincoln, Nebr., Doris June Sanders, Johnston City, Ill., Cecil Virgel Morehead, seaman 2-c, % F.P.O. New Orleans, La., Irene Nellie Morehead at home, his mother, Mrs. Nona Morehead, Nelson; two sisters, Delia Larsen, Los Angeles, Calif., who was unable to be here; Aletha Gharring, Nelson; one brother, Ralph Morehead, Nelson, and a host of relatives and friends. His father, two brothers, Austin and Roy, one sister, Pearl preceded him in death. I cannot say, and I will not say, That he is dead - he is just away! With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He wandered into an unknown land, And left us dreaming how very fair, It needs must be, since he lingers there And you, O you, who the wildest yearn For the old-time step and the glad return, Think of him, bearing on, as dear, In the love of there as the love of here, Think of him still as the same, I say, He is not dead - he is just away. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church (sic) in Nelson at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Rev. C.M. Foust conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Clarence Powell.
