Description	:	Virgil A. Sudbeck, 84, of Baileyville, KS, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home in Baileyville. Virgil was born September 12, 1931, on a farm north of St. Benedict, KS, the son of Franz and Mary A. Olberding Sudbeck. Sudbeck, 84, of Baileyville, KS, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home in Baileyville. Virgil was born September 12, 1931, on a farm north of St. Benedict, KS, the son of Franz and Mary A. Olberding Sudbeck. He grew up on the family farm northwest of St. Benedict, KS, attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Benedict High School in 1949. His father died when Virgil was 11, causing him to grow up fast and to work as hard as any man on the family farm. Virgil purchased a farm prior to joining the US Army, with active service from January 20, 1953 to December 31, 1954 and discharged at the rank of Corporal. After serving his country; he returned to the area and resumed farming. On May 22, 1956, he married Loyola Heiman at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. In 2011, Virgil and Loyola moved to Baileyville and he continued his farming operation. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage, she survives. Virgil was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, serving on the church council and as usher for a number of years. Virgil enjoyed coaching baseball, fishing, hunting, playing cards, Polka music, and watching his grandchildren play any sport. He loved to watch any and all sporting events; he was a quiet man and possessed a dry sense of humor. He was preceded in death by a son, Max F. Sudbeck on July 8, 2003; his parents, Franz on December 20, 1943 and Mary A. on September 16, 1990; and a brother, Linus Sudbeck on August 7, 1990. He is survived by his wife Loyola; son, Dale (Deann) Sudbeck; four daughters, Lora (Doug) Heiman and Mary Beth (Jim) Haverkamp, Julie (Eric) Smith, Amy (Larry) Kuckelman and daughter-in-law, Rose Sudbeck; 20 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. The Rosary will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM, Wednesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM on Thursday, July 7th at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
