Read More	OBITUARY - ALLIANCE TIMES- TUES. 9Dec1930: FUNERAL RITES FOR VALENTINE WRIGHT AT DOWNS, KS: Funeral services for Valentine Wright, former Box Butte County resident were held recently at Downs, Ks where he passed away after an illness. He was know by many of the pioneer of this vicinity. Mr. Wright was born at Ottumwa, IA on March 9, 1860 and died at his home in Downs, KS on December 4, 1930 at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 24 days. In September 1881 he was united in marriage to Minerva E. Earl and to this union 10 children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Wright and family moved from Iowa to Box Butte county and were numbered among the early settlers to homestead in this section of the state. They resided here during the great range war between the cattle and sheep ranchers. The family resided in Nebraska for 20 years and went to Downs in 1907, first locating on a farm eight miles south of the city. On June 14, 1915, Mrs. Wright passed away leaving her husband and eight children, two having preceded her in death. On January 8, 1916 Mr. Wright was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Carter who with the eight children survive him. The children are Mrs. R. M. Worley, Mrs. H.O. Mullender, both of Alliance, Jess V. Wright, Mrs. James Carmody of Omaha, Glen L. Wright and Mrs. Fred Hamilton of Kansas City, MO, George A. Wright of Valentine and Mrs. J. O Palmer of Concordia, KS and one step-son, Will Carter of Osborne, KS. Also surviving the deceased are two brothers, Moses Wright of Alliance and George Wright of Strong City, Oklahoma, and three sisters, Mrs. Hall Goodwin of Long Beach, Calif, Mrs. Emma Weitz of Oakland, Calif, and Mrs. Rhoda Holloway of Cincinnati, Ohio, also 15 grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Wright was a member of the Knights of Columbus lodge at Cawker City and also a member of the Catholic church of Downs. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Downs, Saturday morning at 10 oclock. In charge was the Rev. Father Wahlmer of Cawker City and interment was made in the Downs cemetery. All of the children and four grandchildren were present for the funeral. Mrs. R. M. Worley and Mrs. Mullender went from here to Downs. Volentine Wright homesteaded in Range 50W, Township 26, Section 29, 160 acres, November 11, 1884, Nebraska Homestead certificate #3121.
