Werling, 88, who suffered a stroke two weeks ago, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Home in Fort Wayne where he and his wife have resided since 1978. Veteran of World War 1, Mr. Werling was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Grover Sheets Post 111 of the American Legion. Born Nov. 10, 1894 in Wells County (Jefferson Township), he was the son of Andrew A. and Louise Franzmeyer Werling. His marriage to Alma Meyer, who survives, took place March 2, 1924 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In addition to the wife, he is survived by a son, Wayne Werling of Ossian Route 2; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Ludwig of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two brothers, Andrew A. Werling of Ossian Route 2 and Arnold Werling of Chicago and three grandchildren. Calling from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday will be at the Elzey-Dickey-Haggard Funeral Home in Ossian. Services at 2 p.m. Friday will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. John Eckard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. American Legion will have charge of graveside rites.
