Description	:	Walter Franklin Bennett, 83, of Elk Point, SD, died on Friday, September 11, 2009, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Walter was born on June 1, 1926 to Lowell and Olive (Franklin) Bennett in Sioux City Iowa. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1944. He served in the US Army in Korea for two years. Read More	Walter Franklin Bennett, 83, of Elk Point, SD, died on Friday, September 11, 2009, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Walter was born on June 1, 1926 to Lowell and Olive (Franklin) Bennett in Sioux City Iowa. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1944. He served in the US Army in Korea for two years. Walter married Marilyn Meeves on January 11, 1953. He spent his life farming and also working in Cement Construction. Walter was a member of the Elk Point Masonic Lodge for 55 years, Vermillion Order of Eastern Star, Elk Point VFW and St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Elk Point; sons Scott (Jan) Bennett of Elk Point, Steve (Jill) Bennett of Atascedro, CA, and Stuart (Laura) Bennett of Ankney, IA; daughter Tari (Dave) Skogsberg of Elk Point; sister-in-law Dorothy Bennett of Atascedro, CA; many nephews & nieces; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wesley, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Ronald & Connie Erickson. Memorials may be directed to the Church Video Projection Fund, St. Paul Lutheran Church, PO Box 370, Elk Point, SD 57025 Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 with a prayer service at 7 pm followed by a Masonic service at Anderson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wed. September 16, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the funeral with a Military Graveside Service by the Elk Point VFW Post.
