Born October 15, 1922, in Napoleon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lewis and Helen (Cordes) Hogrefe. On August 1, 1943, he married Norma H. Miller and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1999. Hogrefe, 88, Napoleon, Ohio, died Thursday morning, Dec. 16, 2010, at the Napoleon Lutheran Home. Born October 15, 1922, in Napoleon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lewis and Helen (Cordes) Hogrefe. On August 1, 1943, he married Norma H. Miller and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1999. Walter was the owner and operator of N&W Sunoco in Napoleon and also was a truck driver for United Trucking for 17 years and Napoleon Home Oil for 14 years. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Florida, Ohio, were he served as an elder. He was a life member of Teamsters Local 299 in Detroit. Walter served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 424 in Ridgeville, the Napoleon VFW and AMVETS posts. Surviving are a son, Steven (Joan) Hogrefe of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death also by a daughter, Constance Wolf; son, Gary W. Hogrefe; brothers, Arnold and Raymond Hogrefe; and sisters, Ruth Rickenburg, Florence Willis and Frances Johnston. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Florida, Ohio, with Rev. Robert Azinger officiating. Interment will be made in the Glenwood Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans posts of Napoleon. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary on Monday from 4-7 p.m. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the church or Hospice of Henry County. The family would like to acknowledge the nurses and staff of the Napoleon Lutheran Home, and his special hospice care.
