BRAY TAKEN BY DEATH AT HORNBROOK Walter H. Bray, prominent rancher of Hornbrook, passed away at his home Tuesday night at the age of 62 years. He had been in ill health for some time and had been confined to his bed for the last week. Walter Henry Bray was born at Fall River Mills, Shasta county on September 21, 1873, a son of the late Wm. J. and Jennie A. Bray. While a small child, he came with his parents to Yreka, where the family resided for a number of years. In 1886 they moved to Bray, Calif., where he lived until 1899, when he homesteaded a place at Sheepy Creek, east of Dorris. On January 1st. 1902 he was married to Lola Fox of Dorris. Eleven children were born to this union, nine of whom survive. Mr. Bray purchased a ranch in 1913, near Hornbrook, which he operated until this spring, when ill health forced him to retire. He was well known throughout California as a hunter, having run a pack of hounds and acted as guide for numerous hunting parties until his health failed. He was a prominent member of the Grange in Siskiyou county and also a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Both of these orders will unite in the funeral services. Mr. Bray is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Bray; five daughters, Mrs. Grace Cummins, Mrs. Jennie Clawson, Miss Edith Bray, all of Hornbrook; Mrs. Rose Kraft of Colton, California; Miss Verna Bray of Yreka, and four sons, Walter, George, Gordon and Eugene Bray, all of Hornbrook. Also two brothers and five sisters survive. They are George Bray of Yreka, W. A. Bray of Hilt, Mrs. Grace Deter of Medford, Ore., Mrs. Ivy High of Happy Camp, Mrs. Mable Sanders of Hornbrook, Mrs. Ruth Baumgartner of Hilt and Mrs. Pearl Young of Stockton. Funeral services will be conducted from the Hornbrook Grange Hall Friday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. W. R. Troutner officiating. Interment will be made in the Henley-Hornbrook Cemetery. J. E. Turner & Sons are funeral directors. Obituary was published in the Siskiyou News on Thursday, July 30, 1936 Walter Henry Bray was 62 years, 9 month and 7 days old.
