Description	:	Walter Moxham, the eldest son of Ben and Louise Moxham, was born in Omaha, August 20, 1880. When he was three years old he moved with his parents to a farm south of Chester. It was while in that community that he attended the Milner school in Republic County, Kansas. In 1903 he went to Lincoln to learn the stone-cutting trade. Read More	Walter Moxham, the eldest son of Ben and Louise Moxham, was born in Omaha, August 20, 1880. When he was three years old he moved with his parents to a farm south of Chester. It was while in that community that he attended the Milner school in Republic County, Kansas. In 1903 he went to Lincoln to learn the stone-cutting trade. Following this he worked on many buildings built in the state between 1903 and 1908. After moving to Chester, in 1913, he cut the name plate and date for the City Hall. Later he bought the Meridian Garage with his brother, Harry, and when Harry moved to Wymore he bought the entire business. On May 3rd, 1911, Walter Moxham was united in marriage to Miss Alice Davis. To this union were born 11 children: four boys, Grant, Gerald, Robert and Richard; and seven girls, Margaret, Gertrude, Evelyn, Ethel, Betty, Virginia and Barbara. Mr. Moxham was always interested in his community, helping to organize the Chester Volunteer Fire Department and was the first chief of this organization. He served 12 years as treasurer of the School Board and six years on the City Council. He passed away on April 14, 1958, in the Hebron Hospital, at the age of 77 years. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Barbara, in 1931, by his brothers, Harry and Ben, and by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Alcie; four sons, Grant of Plainfield, N.J., Gerald of Omaha, Robert of Chester, and Richard of Belleville, Ks.; six daughters, Mrs. Walter Christensen, Sparks, Nev., Mrs. Joel Braddock, Portsmouth, N. Hamp., Mrs. Ezra Hybl, Carter Lake, Ia., Mrs. Jean Larkins, Chester, Mrs. William Eberline, Des Moines, Ia., and Mrs. Howard Griess of Hutchison, Ks.; by 26 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John Salisbury, Topeka, Ks.; two brothers, George, Belleville, Ks., and Ernest of Chester, and by a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held from the Chester Methodist Church Thursday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Duane Hutchinson. Mrs. Fred Duey and Mrs. Lawrence Eickman, sang accompanied by Mrs. Floyd Haifleigh at the organ. Casket bearers were Neal Eickman, Myrl Moxham, Frank Larkins, Lee Larkins, Dale Moxham and Donald Eickman. Interment was made in the Chester cemetery (sic). Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart funeral service was in charge of arrangements.
