Description	:	WALTER W. McFARLAND The subject of this sketch was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, October 29, 1870, and passed away at Colorado Springs April 2, 1918. When a small child he moved with his parents to Fredericksburg, Iowa. On December 27th, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Farnum to which union four children were born the oldest dying in infancy. McFARLAND The subject of this sketch was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa, October 29, 1870, and passed away at Colorado Springs April 2, 1918. When a small child he moved with his parents to Fredericksburg, Iowa. On December 27th, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Farnum to which union four children were born the oldest dying in infancy. In the fall of 1895 Mr. and Mrs. McFarland moved to Harrison county, Missouri where for one year they resided on the Coberly farm, from which they moved to their farm north of Eagleville where they made their home until August 1917, when they moved to Colorado Springs in the hope of regaining Mr. McFarland's health. At first it seemed that he would be benefited and his many friends rejoiced with the family and hoped he would return to live among them. This, however, proved a false hope and in January 1918 he became worse and it was found necessary to have one of his lungs drained. It was his last hope and it failed. Death came some ten days after the operation was performed. Owing to the illness of his daughter, Miss Folo[sic], it was thought best to enter the body at Colorado Springs. Mr. McFarland was a member of the Baptist church and lived a consistent Christian life. He was thrifty, conscientious and honest in all his dealings. He was very neat as a farmer and his home and its surroundings were always noticeably neat and well kept and he took great pride in his home and family. His road was always found in the finest condition and was a joy to the passer-by. Before his death he expressed his readiness to pass into the great beyond and his words were of great comfort to his wife and family. They were deeply devoted to him and did all in their power to make his last hours comfortable and whose hearts are now grieving as only love filled hearts can grieve over the parting of the ways. He leaves besides his wife three children, Folo, Zatha, and Wayne. Our hearts are all touched by the grief of this excellent family and we trust that they will be able to see beyond the present which is dark and into the glad future, where all shall be well. We extend to them the deepest sympathy of many friends and especially of the neighbors who have been associated with them and who valued them as neighbors and friends.
