Description	:	Werdna Delia Nelson, 95, of Sterling passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Sterling. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, March 1 at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, March 2 at the Berean Church with Pastor Dan Holsten officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Werdna was born on February 8, 1920 to Earl and Carrie (Knudson) Rieke in Sterling. She was raised and lived in the West Plains community most of her life. She met and later married Chauncey Nelson on September 22, 1946 in Sterling. They lived on their ranch at West Plains until they moved to Sterling in 1978. To this union, three children were born. Jane and husband John Culver of Elsie, NE, Janet of Sterling, and Jim and Judy of Padroni. Chauncey passed away in 1991, after 45 years of marriage, but Werdna maintained her home in Sterling and remained active in church and community until she moved to Devonshire Acres in December 2013. She enjoyed horseback riding and broke 23 horses. She loved the Colorado Rockies and watched them on television. She also enjoyed bowling until her health prevented her. Werdna was involved in the activities of her grandchildren. She and Chauncey loved going to their baseball, softball, and basketball games and rooting for them. She attended college graduation ceremonies of all of her 7 grandchildren. She was very proud of the recognition she received for having a farmstead in her family for both the Reike and Knudson families for 100 years. In 2013, she served as one of the Grand Marshals in the Logan County Parade as one of their centennial farms recognition program. In 2014, she was recognized as a Logan County Pioneer by the Sterling Lions Club. She is survived by her 3 children; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister Florence Goodwin of Fort Collins and sister-in-law Marjorie Rieke. Werdna was preceded in death by her parents; brother Virgil Rieke; and brother-in-law Stephen Goodwin. She was loved and adored by her nieces, nephews, and friends for her gentle soul and kind nature. Memorials can be made to the Werdna Nelson Memorial Fund in care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
