Wesley is listed in 1862-1865 in the Civil War under Company 37th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He is listed as "Worsley H. Taylor". He was in the Graybeard Regiment - object of 37th was to do garrison duty and let the young men go to the front. He was mustered in 1 Nov 1862 at Anamosa Iowa. He was described as having hazel eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, height 5' 8". At this time he was a 55 year old farmer who enlisted for 3 years. He was mustered out 24 May 1865 Davenport, Iowa. He was paid a bounty of $25.00 and was still due $75.00. He was listed in Oneida Township in Tama County, Iowa in the 1870 census and in Carroll Township, Tama County, Iowa in 1880. The Toledo Chronicle Newspaper dated August 18, 1881 stated "Mr. Taylor who died at the Poor House was buried in Carroll Cemetery."
