An in-person review by this contributor of the original birth record on file at the Jefferson county Courthouse (Recorder's Office) shows that the original entry for "Wilbur Frank Pearson" listed the DOB as July 29, 1913. The record was amended via a penned in notation filed on March 24, 1939, changing the DOB to May 29, 1913. The physician of record was listed as Dr. S. K. Davis of Libertyville, Iowa. Other entries on the same listing of births clarify his full name as being Dr. Samuel King Davis ( see: Samuel King Davis ). A review of many of his entries indicate that he chose to list birth locations, for the most part, as being either in Liberty Township or Des Moines Township. While other physicians can be found who listed births further by town, evidently Dr. Davis as a general preference did not. Thus the original DOB entry for Wilbur listed the birth location no further than Des Moines Township, Jefferson county, Iowa. It should be noted, however, that while the Fairfield Ledger obituary for Wilbur was in error as to the DOB, listing it as May 29, 1910, it did reference Libertyville as the birth location. Also, a search on Ancestry provides evidence that Wilbur Frank Pearson applied for Social Security Application in February 1937, on which application he evidently listed his own birth location also as being "Libertyville, Iowa". It is possible, but not known for certain, that in filling out his Social Security Application in 1937 that Wilbur discovered the incorrect DOB on his original birth record and sought legal remedy to correct it, since changes to a vital record such as a birth record can only be done by the county recorder/office staff upon judicial order. The birth location was not changed. Early in FindAGrave's organization someone was able to have "Des Moines Township" listed as a location for Jefferson county, Iowa. Since that time, per notes found in the F/A/Q's, FindAGrave does not intend to support townships for locations, preferring to keep locations limited to cities or county levels as need be. Presumably since at least some townships had/have been used on other memorials removing them from location hints might cause problems, but as a general rule no new township locations are being provided by FindAGrave for location hints. In deference to the fact that "Des Moines Township" remains in the location hints for Jefferson county, this memorial will, as/of July 7, 2016, use that location for the DOB, but with the above observations.
