E. Young, 305 East Briggs street, died yesterday afternoon at 5:05 oclock at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Jesse Berry in Mdeiapolis. The body will be brought here tomorrow and funeral services will be held at the Young home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 oclock. They will be conducted by Rev. J. M Elam of Oskaloosa, an old time friend of the decedent. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Schaefer was born in Ohio September 5, 1848 and was a year old when the family moved to Milwaukee, Wis. She grew to womanhood there and was married to Mr. Schaefer in that city. They moved to Fairfield in 1868 where Mr. Schaefer died in 1914. Since that time Mrs. Schaefer had lived with her children. ------------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Friday July 12, 1929 OBITUARY Mrs. John Schaefer Wilhelmina Weitzel Schaefer passed away at the home of her granddaughter Mrs. J. E. Berry at Mediapolis, Iowa, on June 20, 1929 at 5:05 p.m. at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 13 days. She was the eldest daughter of Minnie and George Weitzel born in Ohio, September 5, 1848. When one years old moved with her parents on a farm near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to John Schaefer on January 15, 1865 (sic. Jan. 9, 1865 per family group sheet) in Milwaukee. In 1868 they moved to Fairfield, Iowa making that their home until Mr. Schaefer's death in 1914 since that time she had made her home with her children. To this union were born 9 children two dying in infancy and daughter Daisy preceding her mother on Dec. 14, 1930 (sic. 1903) and son William March 14, 1929. Left to mourn the death of their mother are John of Ottumwa, Ia., Mrs. James Young of this city, Mrs. H. A. Hall of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. E. H. Willis of Burlington, Ia., Mrs. Roy Hutchison of Clinton, Ia., and Cora which is Mrs. J. E. Berry of Mediapolis, Ia., which is a grand-daughter she raised from infancy and 11 other grand-children and 8 great-grandchildren and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. P. H. Roth, Malvern, Ia., and Mrs. Emma Christensen of Omaha, Neb., and Fred Weitzel of Tekamah, Neb. The deceased was a member of the First M. E. church of this city a loving kind mother who lived for her children and will be greatly missed by them and all who knew her. The last rites were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jas. Young, 305 East Briggs street in charge of Rev. E. Elam of Oskaloosa a friend of the family also prayer by Rev. Lewis Mendenhall a friend of the mafily for many years. Mrs. Frank Pierson and Mrs. Arthur Greef sang the "City Four Square," and "Sometime We'll Understand." The pallbearers were members of the family, John Schaefer, Edgar Willis, Roy Hutchison, Jesse Berry, Warren Young, E. Head. The many beautiful flowers spoke of the esteem in which she was held. Many friends and relatives attended the services. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.
